In the “off” state, the load current is completely isolated from the line voltage and there is no heating or EMI.In the off state, a voltage drop occurs across the relay which is normally larger than typical relay contacts due to the forward voltage drop associated with the thyristor\'s firing circuitry. The load current is limited to the holding current which is typically a few amperes. When the voltage across the thyristor junction exceeds the breakdown voltage or a certain minimum voltage, the thyristor is triggered and the load current is switched on or off as requested.The PVT212S-TPBF can be configured in two operating modes. One is a normally open mode, where the voltage between the thyristor and the load to be switched is negligible in the off state. This type of arrangement is ideal for switching of AC or DC currents in resistive loads or non-inductive loads. The second operating mode is a normally closed mode where there is voltage between the thyristor and the load to be switched in the off state.
