Working Principle

The Q4004D3TP is a three-terminal, bidirectional device that is designed for use in AC switchgear, like that found in lighting, heating, cooling, and motor control applications. The three terminals of the Q4004D3TP are named the Gate, Main Terminal-1, and Main Terminal-2. As long as the Gate voltage is higher than a certain threshold, which is called the “latching current”, the TRIAC will remain in an "ON" state. When the Gate voltage drops below the latching current, the TRIAC switches off. This process can be repeated many times in each cycle of the AC power supply.
