Thyristors - TRIACs are widely used in power electronic applications as efficient switching devices. The Q4004F41 is a three-terminal, bidirectional, cruciform, silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) thyristor, which is widely used in industrial, commercial and residential power control applications. TheQ4004F41 is especially suitable for AC switching applications such as inductive (motor) loads, phase-control dimmers and time relays. The device can be triggered when the voltage applied to the gate is greater than the latching voltage. On the other hand, if no voltage is applied to the gate it should be designed with a zener diode that clamps the gate voltage to the rated latching voltage.
TheQ4004F41 is also suitable for use as a thermal relay in AC circuits as a means to protect motors against overcurrents. The device can be triggered with a short delay after the current reaches a certain threshold value and the device will quickly break the circuit to protect the motor.
