The Q6040JH6TP is a 4A, 600V, sensitive gate Triac which is one of the most popular small size Triacs. It is a bidirectional, three-terminal thyristor or silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) with a gate that is sensitive to small current spikes. It is used in a wide range of applications such as lighting controls, thermostats, and phase controlling.

Application Field

The main application for the Q6040JH6TP is for controlling light dimmers, motor speed controls and other AC power controllers. Working Principle

The Q6040JH6TP is made up of a pair of p-type and n-type semiconductor regions that are joined together to form a PNPN structure. When a positive voltage is applied to the gate terminal electrons can be injected onto the P-region and causes the device to turn on. Similarly, a negative voltage applied to the gate terminal causes holes to be injected into the N-region, turning off the device. The gate current is very small, typically around 50mA, and so it only needs a very small signal to switch the device on and off. As a result, it is often used in low voltage control circuits.
