TRIACs

It is a bidirectional, three-terminal thyristor or silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) with a gate that is sensitive to small current spikes. Application Field

Working Principle

Similarly, a negative voltage applied to the gate terminal causes holes to be injected into the N-region, turning off the device. The gate current is very small, typically around 50mA, and so it only needs a very small signal to switch the device on and off. As a result, it is often used in low voltage control circuits.
