The development of high-power semiconductor control elements has enabled complicated systems like power converters operate at a fraction of the cost of analog systems. Further, thyristors – TRIACs, specifically the Q8025R6 allow for improved performance, reliability, efficiency and cost relative to other thyristors. When positive voltage is applied across the anode and cathode, current flows through this junction and it enters the gate. The result is the creation of a junction at the gate, which then holds the current until the gate is turned off. When the gate is turned off, the connection at the gate junction opens, the current is dispelled and the device no longer allows current to pass. This then allows for the control of the forward and reverse current by using the gate voltage.

The Q8025R6 Thyristor also provides several advantages over conventional transistor control systems. These include higher speed control, greater output power and flexibility, better electrical insulation, increased reliability and safety, improved mechanical strength, and higher efficiency.
