One application for DC-DC power conversion is the mediator of power between automotive or other low voltage applications and high voltage power sources in telecommunications and other data processing systems.The QSB7524S24 is a modular power solution for moderating between a 24VDC source and an 8VDC output in 24-pin surface mount devices. It is a highly efficient DC-DC converter using synchronous rectification and non-insulated switch technology to deliver up to 36W of power. The device consists of one main internal power switch and is available in single output versions with proper selection of the output voltage. The primary input can be connected to a 24VDC source in order to provide an intermediate output of 8VDC. The primary input voltage range is 18 to 36VDC, and the maximum output voltage is limited to 7.5VDC. This unique device also features wide-range temperature operation, low ripple and noise, and offers a simple, stackable installation process with minimal external components. The working principle of this QSB7524S24 is based on the Buck Converter topology. The basic setup includes a unique combination of inductors, capacitors, switching transistors, and control circuits designed to switch between DC source and load. The inductor voltage and current waveforms of the DC-DC converter greatly affect system performance. The ideal operating point of theinductor is based on a single current peak point, meaning that the voltage and current of the inductor will be at their highest at the same time. In addition, the desired rate of change of the input voltage and current is regulated to provide an overall steady-state system performance. The output voltage is regulated through two methods: on-time control and ripple canceling. The on-time control methodology is triggered by a voltage rise at the regulator input, and is designed to maintain a given reference voltage at the output. This technology also functions to modify any ripple as a result of the prerequisite current slew rate. The ripple canceling action is achieved through a control voltage feedback loop, monitoring the ripple and influencing it to approach zero when a symmetrical voltage is detected at the output.
