.A R3680 Rectifier is a specific type of diode designed for power conversion applications. It is designed for use in single phase, full wave and three phase bridge rectification circuits used in consumer, commercial and industrial applications. The device is used to convert AC voltage input to DC voltage as an output.
The R3680 is a Single Phase Bridge Rectifier. It is composed of two metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) and two diodes connected together in a common emitter configuration. MOSFETs are controlled by the adjustable current limit (ACL) circuit to limit the current in the output. The ACL adjusts the duty cycle of the device for different output voltage and load conditions. ACL also provides the ability to change the peak current in the output depending on the load conditions.
The diode portion consists of two silicon Schottky barrier diodes, usually referred to as Schottky diodes. In a Schottky diode, a thin layer of metal (the Schottky barrier) separates a negative charge carrier (the electrons) from the positive charge carrier (the holes). The Schottky diodes are the main components that do the rectification of the AC input to DC output.
The bridge rectifier configuration of two MOSFETs and two Schottky diodes can be used to provide high power conversion efficiency and excellent surge current capability. The MOSFETs provide the higher frequency waveforms required for power conversion, while, the Schottky diodes provide the rectification of the AC voltage waveform to a DC voltage waveform.
The R3680 is capable of operating at a wide range of AC input voltage from 45 to 500 volts, and at a wide range of AC input frequency from 0 to 500 Hz, making it applicable to a variety of commercial, industrial, and consumer applications. The output DC voltage can be adjusted from 0 to the peak voltage (Vm) of the AC input waveform.
The device can be operated using PWM control of the gate signals to the MOSFETs for maximum efficiency and power factor. By changing the pulse width of the MOSFET switches in the bridge, the current in the output can be regulated and the peak current can be limited.
