The Texas Instruments\' REF3312AIDCKT voltage reference series is a low dropout, low supply current voltage reference for use in a variety of applications. With a wide supply voltage range, small footprint, and low temperature coefficient, the REF3312AIDCKT voltage reference series is suitable for voltage & current sensing, data and signal conditioning, power supply regulation, and other applications where defined reference voltages with high accuracy and stability are required.

Operating Principle & Overview of REF3312AIDCKT

The REF3312AIDCKT voltage reference series is based on a temperature compensated zinc oxide (ZnO) technology that provides excellent accuracy over a wide temperature range. This technology minimizes errors due to temperature variations and reduces the need for external components. An internal bandgap reference is used to provide a voltage reference against which the output voltage is compared. At the heart of the voltage regulation circuit is an output error amplifier that controls the current flowing through a series of fuse-type resistors.

The ON/OFF pin controls the power enable or disable state of the device. The ON/OFF pin is open-drain and is driven low to turn the device off and high to turn the device on. This pin operates similarly to that of an NMOS transistor, switching off the supply current and disabling the device when it is pulled low. The output voltage is adjusted with an external resistor divider across VREF, setting the output voltage to (VREF X R1)/(R2 + R1). Additionally, the internal output voltage can be trimmed with an external resistor.

Due to their low supply current and dropout voltage, the REF3312AIDCKT provides low-power operation and is well suited for use in portable and battery-powered applications. The REF3312AIDCKT is available in a wide variety of packages, from standard 8-pin DIP to small 0.6-, 0.8- and 1.2-mm WQFN packages.
