PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Resettable Fuses are a type of fuse or circuit breaker designed to continually protect a circuit from excessive current, or short-circuits. They are designed to allow the fuse to reset or self-repair during a short circuit, providing continuous protection during periods of high current. RGE1000 is a new type of resettable fuse and its application field and working principle is very different from conventional fuses.
In comparison to conventional fuses, RGE1000 has an improved reset mechanism which results in a higher rating in terms of current handling and fast response time. The product has a built-in thermoelectric element which monitors the temperature and current during the course of operation. This thermoelectric element has a positive temperature coefficient meaning that it increases the effective resistance of the fuse as the temperature rises. Hence, when the temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold, the resistance of the fuse increases and thus forcing the current to reduce.
The RGE1000\'s application field lies in the prototyping of high current applications such as motorized vehicles, telecommunication networks, coupled with automation systems for protection. It can handle currents up to 1000 amps, protecting the entire electrical circuit from creating large hot spots due to high current.
The PTC Resettable Fuses do not have a traditional fuse design, and hence they cannot be replaced. Hence, this makes them an ideal choice for many industries as they do not need to be replaced regularly. All the components of the RGE1000 are stored in a self-restricting shell which ensures that the user does not have to ever change the fuse.
The working of RGE1000 is quite simple, but at the same time it is highly efficient. When a short circuit occurs, the fuse will trip and restrict the current flow, limiting the amount of heat produced. When the current subsides, the thermoelectric element will cool off and reduce its resistance, thus allowing the circuit to continue functioning. This is what is known as ‘self-resting’ and this is the principle on which the RGE1000 fuse works.
Apart from the self-resting feature, the RGE1000 also has two other functions. Firstly, the fuse can be used for protection in high voltage couples. When a short circuit occurs in the components being protected, the fuse will trip and protect the components from further damage. Secondly, the fuse can also act as an emergency shut off switch when a component is too hot to handle. This will ensure that the user does not enter a potentially hazardous area.
In summary, the RGE1000 PTC Resettable Fuse is a new generation of fuse which is designed to provide protection from short circuits and other high current. It is built with a thermoelectric element which monitors temperature and current and its self-resting feature ensures that the circuit continues to run even after a short circuit has occurred. Its appliations field lies in the prototyping of high current applications such as motorized vehicles, telecommunication networks, coupled with automation systems for protection.
