PTCResettable Fuses are usually used as overcurrent protection and are primarily utilized in low-cost consumer electronics and small utility appliances. These devices protect against circuit overloads caused by abnormally high currents in the system. RHEF700 is a Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient Resettable Fuse, developed and produced by Littelfuse.
RHEF700 offers the most efficient protection solution for areas of the electronics industry that require superior electrical insulation and safety including power adapters, LED lighting and lighting drivers, power control modules and motor drives. It is the perfect solution for protecting circuits in a wide variety of applications since it can withstand temperatures up to 125°C, has a wide variety of sizes available, and is significant smaller in size compared to other devices. One of the key benefits of using a RHEF700 resettable fuse is that it will automatically reset when the fault is cleared, thus saving time and money for the user.
The application field of the RHEF700 consists of, but is not limited to the following sectors: Overload protection in power supplies, Secondary port protection in AC/DC adapters, IT/networking equipment, test and protection equipment, TVs, video game consoles, detection and measurement equipment, consumer electronics and industrial control systems.
The working principle of the RHEF700 is based on the PTC Polymer Technology. This innovative technology allows the device to demonstrate a predictable current-limit characteristic over time. A PTC Resettable Fuse will protect circuits from any electrical faults or overloads. When the current exceeds the rated limit, a temperature increase occurs in the fuse which causes the PTC to “trip”, thus cutting the electricity to the circuit. After a certain time period, the temperature decreases which results in the automatic restart of the circuit by the PTC Resettable Fuse.
