Working Principle of ROV07H270K
ROV07H270K is an active component, and its operation is based on the basic principle of limiting the voltage by providing a low impedance path available for surge currents. It contains two sections: the transient energy absorption section or “clamp” which moves electricity from the main circuit, and also the energy dissipation section which dissipates the remaining stored energy through heat emission. The first section absorbs the excessive energy generated by the surge, and the second dissipates the energy that was not absorbed by the first.
The active component is made of a diode, thermistor, and resistor structure. The diode acts as a ‘crowbar’ which shorts the positive and ground supply lines in the case of a transient. This forces the power source to trip or shut down. The thermistor element of the device converts the surge energy into heat which is safely dissipated by the thermal dissipation element.
ROV07H270K can be used for both line-to-ground and line-to-line applications. It also provides a failsafe against short-circuits and dead-shorts. The device has a built-in current limiting feature for additional protection and is also RoHS compliant.
