Application field

Working principle

The ROV10-270K-S is an oxide-based TVS diode, which means it is a reverse-biased voltage-dependent resistor, designed to act as a voltage-clamping device. When the voltage across the diode exceeds its reverse breakdown voltage, the diode starts to conduct, providing a low impedance path that limits the voltage on the device and reduces the amount of energy that is discharged. The device is designed to be permanently connected to either the ground plane or the VCC line, depending on the type of device, and it has a specified clamping voltage at a given current.

When the device is exposed to an overvoltage, it will enter into a conduction state and the device will reduce the transient to a safe voltage level. The lower the clamping voltage, the better the device will be at protecting the circuit from overvoltage. The device will also protect the circuit from reverse voltage and electrostatic discharge (ESD), by providing a high impedance path that prevents an ESD event from reaching the component.
