RST 200-BULK Application Field and Working Principle

The RST 200-BULK is a medium duty, quick-acting fuse designed for the use in applications that require a high fault current rating. Its current ratings cover a range from 32A through 400A with voltages up to 600VAC, up to 175VDC, and multiple or parallel configurations. The 200-BULK was developed in response to the popularity of electronic circuit protection being used on AC, DC power conversion and LED lighting systems.

The design of the 200-BULK series utilizes a slow-blow-type ceramic construction with a glass insert. This helps to contain any arc energy that is generated when the fuse undergoes a fault interruption. This also helps to reduce the chance of an after-arc effect. The 200-BULK has an integral tripping indicator that helps to eliminate confusion and allow for quick and easy visual identification of any tripped fuse.

The 200-BULK’s series features a self-cleaning design that utilizes a ceramic and fluoropolymer guard which allows easy clearing of the fixture between the contacts while providing superior current limiting properties. This is due to the 200-BULK’s secondary arc smothering feature, which causes the arc gap to remain smaller while providing superior protective results.

The 200-BULK has a close tolerance to resistance and offers superior surge protection, making it an ideal choice for applications such as AC power line protection, DC power line protection, and LED lighting systems, and more. Its faster operating characteristics than a slow-blow fuse make it well suited for applications where critical fast-acting protection is needed, such as photovoltaic, industrial equipment, and motor starter protection.

The 200-BULK series is also thermally protected, providing added protection against current inrush and overvoltage. This feature helps protect the fuse from any dangerous overloads and ensures that the fuse will operate accurately and predictably in the event of a fault.
