It maintains constant output voltage via a feedback loop connected to the error amplifier which compares the output voltage to an internal reference voltage. When the output voltage exceeds the reference voltage, the power switch, connected to the controller, is turned off to reduce the energy absorbed from the pole. The controller then defines the maximum peak current, causes the switch to reduce the frequency and reduce the output voltage. This function continues until the output voltage reaches the reference voltage. A capacitor located at the output of the power stage is used to store energy, and the output voltage is delivered to a load via a diode connected to the power stage, circulating energy back and forth between the load and the capacitor.
