PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Special PurposeThe RT9045GSP is a DC-DC converter with synchronous rectification and is produced specifically for LCD panels. It provides a VLCD power source from a single cell Li+ battery by step-down conversion and is capable of generating up to 18V. The RT9045GSP also supports load-disconnect and is used as an alternative solution to other costly power management solutions that require multiple components. The RT9045GSP is commonly used in embedded systems that include a type of display such as LCD panel or LED panel. Some of the major applications it\'s used in are tablets, digital cameras, and smart phones. These applications usually require the RT9045GSP in order to reduce the clocking frequency at low-load and to adjust the output voltage levels in order to meet the wide voltage range available on different LCD modules.The RT9045GSP also supports Low Stand-by Power Consumption (LSPC) and Thermal Shutdown (TSD), which are key features for power-critical applications. The device has a programmable frequency up to 1MHz, low ripple, and features cycle-by-cycle current limit and a comfortable (±3%) output voltage accuracy over wide range of temperature. The RT9045GSP circuit consists of an internal P-Channel MOSFET, an internal N-Channel MOSFET, a linear regulator and the Power-On-Reset (POR) Circuit. The P-channel MOSFET is used to regulate the input voltage and the N-channel MOSFET is used to regulate the output voltage. The linear regulator is used for dealing with the switching frequency and for providing the output with an adjustable voltage level. The POR circuit is used for providing protection against power supply overload.The RT9045GSP features Smart Dimming Technology (SDT) which is capable of providing a wide range of display brightness from 0.05% to 100% in a linear fashion. This feature allows the user to control the display brightness via an analog signal. In order to maintain a constant display brightness, the RT9045GSP regulates brightness data through several steps by altering the output voltage in response to the variances in the input voltage. The power stage of the RT9045GSP consists of a Synchronous Rectifier (SR) as opposed to using the traditional diode rectifier. The SR reduces the power loss, thereby improving conversion efficiency and providing higher output Amps. The switching frequency is adjustable, which helps to minimize any EMI issues. The output voltage of the RT9045GSP can be adjusted within a range of 4.2V~18V by employing a feedback voltage divider and an external voltage divider. The output voltage is further coupled with an internal Over-Voltage Protection (OVP) that limits the output voltage up to 18.5V.The RT9045GSP is also protected by an adjustable over-temperature protection (OTP) that will shut down the converter externally in case of an over-temperature fault. The OVP, OTP and the Over-Current Protection (OCP) features can be controlled and adjusted through the external OTP, OVP and OCP resistors. The RT9045GSP provides an accurate output voltage, as a PWM signal is created by comparing the error amplifiers output voltage to a triangular waveform voltage and the output voltage is compared with the feedback voltage by the Error Amplifier. Additionally, the feedback voltage is provided with two resistors in a Voltage Divider configuration in order to set the output voltage range and accuracy.Moreover, the RT9045GSP also supports various functions such as Fast Transient Response (FTR), Load Disconnect (LD), Soft Start (SS), and External Synchronization (ES). The FTR feature helps with current limiting and enables a smoother transition of the output voltage. The LD feature improves system efficiency by disconnecting the load when the load reaches a preset recommended level or an external signal is applied. The SS feature reduces the power supply inrush current and helps the user to gradually increase the output voltage. The ES feature allows the RT9045GSP to be synchronized with an external clock circuit.In conclusion, the RT9045GSP is a cost effective solution as compared to any other conventional power management solutions. It offers adjustable, accurate and efficient power management with a wide range of features that include Smart Dimming Technology, Load Disconnect, Fast Transient Response, Soft Start and External Synchronization.
