PMIC – Voltage Regulators – LinearRT9069-50GSP, a Power Management Application Specific Integrated Circuit (PMIC), provides one linear regulator. It has high output voltage accuracy, ultra-low quiescent current and adjustable current limiter, transformer and other voltage regulating functions, making it suitable for consumer and industrial applications.Application FieldRT9069-50GSP provides a compact, low cost solution for common voltage regulation applications. It is ideal for powering microprocessors and memories in many consumer and industrial systems, such as computer motherboards, portable devices and automotive. RT9069-50GSP can provide power supply for wide range of applications, such as DC-DC converters, linear regulators, power modules, motor drivers, LED drivers, and portable battery-operated systems. Moreover, it is capable of supplying high current to loads and providing low noise power solutions. Working PrincipleRT9069-50GSP utilizes a Linear Voltage Regulator (LVR), which consists of a series of resistive components and a feedback loop to regulate the output voltage of the circuit. When the voltage output deviates from the programmed value, the feedback loop changes the operating point to adjust the voltage output level. The output voltage of a linear regulator is usually set by an external resistor divider and an external reference voltage. When the voltage output is quiescent (i.e. not changing), the resistor divider produces a feedback current that is proportional to the output voltage, which is then fed back to the linear regulator. The regulator chip then adjusts its output voltage based on the feedback current. The main disadvantage of a linear regulator is the power loss due to the switching of the pass transistor. The power dissipation can be minimized by using low dropout (LDO) regulators, which is due to the reduced voltage difference between the input and output sources.In order to reduce external noise influence and improve the system stability, RT9069-50GSP also provides various controlling functions such as overload protection, over- and under-voltage protection, over-current protection and short-circuit protection.ConclusionRT9069-50GSP provides a simple, but robust solution for linear voltage regulation applications.
