RT9193-18GB application field and working principle
RT9193-18GB is a linear voltage regulator integrated circuit (IC) which is manufactured by Richtek. It belongs to the IC family of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear and is specifically designed for mobile applications. This IC can output a maximum of 500mA of regulated voltage ranging from 1.8V to 5.5V. It is used for applications such as MP3, laptop, digital camera and other mobile electronic products.The basic structure of RT9193-18GB is composed of a pair of N-type and P-type transistors, a Zener diode and a current limiter. Depending on the predetermined output voltage, the transistors combine with the limiter and diode to form a three-terminal regulator. The working principle of RT9193-18GB is based on the theorem of voltage division. The Zener diode is used to maintain the division voltage and holds it at the regulated voltage level. When EL+ is higher than the output voltage, the P-type transistor is switched on and begins to restrict the current. The current passes from EL+ to the output and then to the EL- terminal. This is the core of the three-terminal regulator.The working temperature range for RT9193-18GB is 0℃ to 125℃. The quiescent current for the IC is relatively low, so it consumes less power compared with other linear regulators. It has good current limiting capability, fast response time and good transient surge capability. It has an input voltage range from 3.3V to 20V, output voltage accuracy of ±1.5%, over-current protection and output short-circuit protection.RT9193-18GB also integrates reverse voltage protection to eliminate the need of external diode or P-type transistor. It supports TSOT-23-5, UCSP package and comes with a thermal shutdown feature. Temperature range of the thermal shutdown control is −40℃ to 150℃. This feature helps to protect the IC from over-heating and burn out. It features adjustable output voltage of VOUT =1.8V to 5.5V, regulated voltage output in the range of 0.6V to 6V and output current of up to 500mA. The added protection circuit of this IC eliminates the need of additional components to provide protection against short-circuit and out of regulation conditions.In conclusion, RT9193-18GB is a linear voltage regulator IC designed for mobile applications such as digital cameras and MP3 players.
