PTC Resettable Fuses

PTC resettable fuses, also known as polyfuse, are passive components that are made of a polymer-based positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material and a resistor. They provide overcurrent protection by opening an electric circuit when the current flowing through the fuse exceeds the rated value. When the current is reduced to a safe level, the PTC material cools and the fuse resets.

RUEF800-2 is a type of PTC resettable fuse, mainly used in control circuit of home appliance and office equipment, such as computers, audio/video products, copiers, fax machines and other electronic products.

Working Principle

When current through the RUEF800-2 PTC resettable fuse passes its rated value, with the increasing temperature of PTC material, the resistance of the fuse increases significantly, causing a large voltage drop across it. This effect reduces the current, limiting the current surge and providing overcurrent protection. After the current is cooled to a safe level, the PTC material cools and the fuse resets.

RUEF800-2 PTC resettable fuse provides an automatic reset feature, making the circuit reliable and ensuring that the overcurrent protection is active after each cycle. This is significant in providing electrical safety.
