PTC Resettable Fuses are an important safety component, and the use of RXEF375 is particularly great. The following describes the application field and working principle of the RXEF375.The RXEF375 is a one-time use, polymeric, positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resettable fuse, a type of resettable over-current protection device. It is designed to protect against inrush currents and/or high fault currents, and is suitable for use in building wiring systems, office equipment, medical electronics and numerous other applications.The unique feature of the RXEF375 is its design to open in the presence of over-current conditions, and re-close once the fault has been removed. This is done by raising the temperature to above the Curie point of the polymer, which causes the resistance of the fuse to rapidly increase and the device to open, and then cooling to below the Curie point allowing the fuse to reset.In terms of operation, the RXEF375 works in the following manner. Initially, when power is applied, current from the power source flows through the conductive polymer element, manifesting as heat which melts the metallic silver contacts on the device and relieves the over-current conditions. This melts the silver contacts, opening the circuit and returning the current to a safe level. After the current returns to a safe level, the circuit cools back down, allowing the device to reset and re-close immediately if the fault is removed. The RXEF375 offers numerous advantages over other devices, such as a high current carrying capacity, low resistance, fast response time and high reliability. It also comes with a wide range of sizes, from 3.2mm to 12.5mm, and also offers a range of different trip current levels.In terms of safety, the RXEF375 is an excellent choice due to its resettable feature. Once power is removed, it will reset and be ready for use when power is applied again (this can take place up to 1000 times). In addition, it has a low voltage drop across the device, negating the need for a separate choke or inductor in the circuit. It also has low power dissipation, making it suitable for a range of applications, from medical electronics to automotive electronics.To summarise, the RXEF375 is an ideal choice for applications requiring protection against inrush current and/or fault current. It comes with a range of advantages, such as a high current carrying capacity, low resistance, fast response time and high reliability.
