Solid state relays (SSRs) are electrically operated switching components that use solid state electronic components, such as transistors, diodes, and optocouplers, as the switching element instead of a traditional mechanical contact arrangement. The S102T02F solid state relay is a bi-directional device capable of switching both AC and DC circuits. It is used primarily for switching AC loads, such as in motor control applications. It is also designed for low to moderate-level switching applications up to 12.5 amps.

The relay employs isolated DC-DC converter technology to couple the control circuit from the load circuit, thereby creating a high degree of electrical isolation. It consists of an input signal (control) terminal, a pair of semiconductor switches, and a set of terminals for connecting the load. The input circuit is optically isolated from the load circuit, allowing either AC or DC control signals to be used without concern for shorting the two circuits.

When a control signal is supplied to the S102T02F, current flows through the opto-coupler which is designed to safely isolate the input circuit from the load circuit. This current activates the low side MOSFET which switches the load circuit on or off, depending on the input signal level.
