S1GFL Application Field and Working Principle

The S1GFL series of rectifiers are designed as single-phase, full-wave, silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs). They are an important component of power switching or rectification systems mainly used in industrial, commercial, and residential applications.

An SCR is a four-layer, voltage-controlled rectifier junction switching device, with a structure that is similar to a PNPN diode. It consists of a main conduction channel (or gate) and three terminals. The fourth terminal is the gate. When an external voltage is applied to the gate, it is able to control the current flow through the main conduction channel. The two other terminals are the anode and cathode, respectively.

In an S1GFL rectifier, the anode terminal is connected to the AC input of the system. When the current flow direction changes in the AC input, the anode will become the cathode and vice versa. The current passes through the main conduction channel and on to the load. When the applied gate voltage overcomes the threshold voltage, the device will be triggered and the load current begins to flow. When the applied gate voltage is removed, the device will turn off and the load current will be interrupted.

The S1GFL rectifier is mainly used in applications requiring high reliability and low conduction losses, such as welding machines, power supplies, AC motor starters and inverters, AC light dimmers, and high-efficiency power rectitude. It is also suitable for applications with high requirements for input voltage spike immunity and thermal stability. In addition, it can provide improved electrical characteristics, like low turn-on losses, improved leakage current and circuit protection. The S1GFL rectifier also has a wide range of temperature coefficients, allowing for better performance over a wide range of operating environments.
