S320Q Application Field and Working Principle

The S320Q is a high voltage rectifier diode which belongs to the family of single-phase, single-phase power semiconductor devices. It features an 8th order single junction with efficiency of up to 92% and a maximum reverse voltage of 1000v. It is typically used in DC-DC converters, high power rectifiers, switched-mode power supplies, transformers and inverters.

The S320Q offers extremely fast switching speeds and an excellent overload capability. It has an operating junction temperature range of -55°C to +150°C. It is also capable of providing stable performance under varying load conditions.

As the potential barrier increases, the current flowing through the diode eventually stops.

This results in the diode protecting itself from overvoltage conditions, which is known as avalanche breakdown. This process reduces the chances of experiencing excessive current or voltage levels.

The S320Q rectifier works by passing an alternating current through a mix of positive and negative voltage polarities to two electrodes. The alternating current creates a magnetic field, which applies a force on the diode\'s electrons. This force pushes the electrons in the pathway of the smaller voltage, which helps start the conduction process. The energy released from the electrons can be used for power conversion, enabling the connected device to operate. The two electrodes also act as a resistor to keep the current from flowing back into the connected device, reducing the chances of it being damaged.
