Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs) are three-terminal, four-layer semiconductors used to create a switch that can conduct a current when an external voltage is applied. This allows current to flow between the Anode and Cathode. When current stops flowing, the device switches off and the Anode current decays to zero.

In the case of the S40KR SCR, the anode current, ITM, is 200A, with an instantaneous peak of 500A (IFM). The device is rated for continuous operating temperature up to 175 C, making it an ideal solution for applications such as heating elements and electric ovens. The forward voltage drop (VF) is 1100mV, while the Gate Trigger Level (VGT) is 180mV.

The S40KR SCR is also designed to offer low gate current (IGT) and reverse gate voltage, allowing the device to be integrated with other components. With a dielectric strength of 2500 Vrms and a reverse dv/dt of 350V/us, the S40KR is suitable for harsh environments, ensuring reliable operation when exposed to extreme temperatures and dust. Its high breakdown voltage and fast switching speed also make it suitable for high voltage applications and the ability to dissipate up to 800 W makes it highly efficient.
