A Single phase bridge rectifier, commonly referred to as SBR, is an electronic component that works as a type of electrical rectifier. It is a special, four-terminal diode consisting a number of discrete semiconductor diodes connected in what is known as a bridge configuration. Its primary purpose is to use the alternating current (AC) being supplied on the two input links within the bridge, to provide direct current (DC) to a load connected on the bridge\'s output terminals.

By utilizing a capacitor connected in parallel with the bridge, a ripple voltage can be reduced. The ripple voltage is an oscillatory AC component present in the output and originates as a consequence of capacitance in the circuit, as well as the fact that diodes lose some energy during their process of conduction.
