S72SDW is a next generation constant-head permeameter designed for automatic validation of soil hydraulic parameters. Its primary purpose is to measure the saturated hydraulic conductivity, or permeability, of a soil using two penetrometer heads that differ in penetration depth. The shallow and deep standard penetrometer heads are both fitted with pressure transducers, which measure the differential pressure across the head. A separate pressure transducer is inserted into the body of the permeameter to measure the pressure in the chamber where the sample is situated.The S72SDW works by applying a hydraulic head gradient across a sample of soil and measuring the resulting flow rate using the pressure transducers. From this, it is possible to calculate the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil and its variability across the sample.
