S8GCHR7G Application Field and Working Principle

Diodes are a type of semiconductor device that helps control the direction of electrical current flow in a circuit. Among the different types of diodes, Rectifiers are one type that are heavily used in the electrical engineering industry. Single rectifiers are one of the most simplest and most efficient type of rectifiers.

The S8GCHR7G Rectifier works on the principle of two diodes connected back to back, functioning as a four-quadrant multiplier around a center tap. Basically, a four-quadrant multiplier is a combination of two complimentary pairs of back-to-back diodes that allow current to be rectified in the quadrants formed by the input power source and the output load. This four-quadrant multiplier is usually part of the single S8GCHR7G Rectifier.

The four-quadrant multiplier has four diodes, two of them on the positive side and two on the negative side. When the input voltage is positive, one diode of the positive side pair is forward biased, while the other is reverse biased. This configuration allows the rectified signal to pass and be steered towards the output. At the same time, the two diodes of the negative side pair are reversed biased, preventing any current from flowing in the negative direction.

This process happens in reverse when the input voltage is negative. The two diodes of the negative side pair will be forward biased and one diode of the positive side pair will be reverse biased, thereby allowing the rectified signal to flow in the negative direction. So for a single S8GCHR7G Rectifier, constant voltage and current can be provided converging from both the positive and negative sides of the input power source.
