SA6.0A Application Field and Working PrincipleTVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) Diodes are specially designed to protect sensitive electrical elements against the damaging effects of transient voltages due to ESD (electrostatic discharge) events, AC power line surges, lightning strikes, and other voltage spikes. The SA6.0A is a special variant of a TVS Diode designed to offer reliable, non-degrading protection on a continuous basis against transients, surges, and other voltage spikes.
The device, a small plastic surface mount diode, is designed to offer protection for power line and signal line applications subjected to ESD strikes, lightning, or any other induced fast transients. The device is fully RoHS-compliant and provides overvoltage protection for power and data lines of up to 6.0A nominal, with a maximum peak voltage of 600V.
The SA6.0A is designed using precision-engineered low-leakage active diodes, connected to two conductors surrounding a zener diode junction. When avalanche is triggered and initiated, the device operates in the following manner: First, the voltage across the conductors starts to increase and when it reaches the breakdown voltage of the zener diode junction, avalanche is triggered, shunting the excess voltage to ground. This charge is then dissipated as heat, thus stopping the excess voltage from reaching and damaging the components.
Due to its design, the SA6.0A is capable of providing very fast action against voltage transients, dissipating a maximum power of 450 watts for a 10/1000 μs waveform and a maximum clamping voltage of 600V. Additionally, the device is designed to provide excellent long-term reliability against voltage transients, as well as very low static power losses and small capacitance, ensuring protect from ESD strikes.
Due to its highly reliable design, the SA6.0A is suitable for use in wide range of demanding applications, where protection against ESD strikes, transients, and surges needs to be provided. In particular, the device is used in power and signal line Protection, Telecom and Datacom applications, Computer and Computer peripherals applications, CCTV systems, Automotive and Industrial protection, LEDs and switches protection, and many other applications requiring reliable protection against voltage transients and surges.
