.SA9.0 Application Field and Working Principle
SA9.0 (Surface Mounted Avalanche Diode) is a type of TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) diode. It is designed to protect systems and components from high voltage transients produced by induction, lighting or other activities. Application Field
SA9.0 is mainly used for the surge current or ESD protection in microelectronic devices. Working Principle
SA9.0 is equipped with a trigger voltage, once the voltage exceeds the corresponding trigger voltage, the electrical energy is rapidly converted into thermal energy. It strikes a balance between the off-state capability and the dynamic behavior, so it can boast the performance compared with diodes with a larger breakover voltage. Furthermore, its switched-off time is short in comparison to diodes with a lower breakover voltage.
Differing from normal avalanche diodes, SA9.0 is rated to withstand power dissipation up to 700W (typical 600W) which is much higher than most normal avalanche diodes, thus its maximum power dissipation is 125W for 1ms pulse or 2W for 10ms pulse.
SA9.0 also has a low stand-off voltage, with an ultrafast response time down to 8ns and low clamping voltage of 9V. The device also features a good electrical performance with low leakage current, low parasitic inductance, high stability and reliability. This further enables its good ESD protection capability.
It comes in a small SMD (Surface Mount Device) package, and it is very small in size, which helps reduce the board space and cost. Moreover, it consumes significantly less power, making it a good choice for portable applications.
