The SAB-C165-LM 3V High-Availability (HA) microcontroller is a powerful and highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solution designed for applications requiring high reliability and guaranteed service availability in mission-critical applications. The SAB-C165-LM consists of two dedicated redundant embedded microcontroller systems with a total of three Integrated Processing Units (IPUs): the main core (M- CPU) and two CPUs in a modified Harvard architecture. The M-CPU implements latest embedded microcontroller technology from Infineon Technologies and its partners and is supported by an extensive range of on-chip peripherals, allowing the implementation of innovative solutions.

All three processors feature a 16-bit Harvard architecture supporting operations up to 40 MIPS, used for executing device level functions. All three CPUs share internal program and data memories and the SAB-C165-LM provides up to 256 kB combined RAM and Flash program memory, additionally Flash program memory up to 16 MB is available. An additional memory option is a 32 bit SDRAM/SRAM interface with clock speeds up to 133 MHz. The SAB-C165-LM also provides a wide range of system-peripherals including 3 UARTs, 4 SPI/SSI buses, 4 SMbus/I2c-buses, an 8 channel Direct Memory Access (DMA) Controller and 6 Timer including a Segment Timer.

The advantage of this system is that if one of the processors fails, the system can continue to run with no interruption, as the other processor takes over the workload. Additionally, the two processors are always running in tandem, so that if either one fails, the process can switch to the other processor immediately.
