Diodes are semiconductors used within various electronics systems. A diode is a semiconductor device that allows electrical current to flow in only one direction. Rectifiers are diode components that only allow current to flow in one direction—they are utilized to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). Rectifier arrays are similar, but with multiple diodes connected in series, parallel, or combinations of both. A popular example of rectifier arrays is the SB80W10T-H. This type of rectifier array has two main applications and relies on two different principles for operation. First, the SB80W10T-H may be used as a converter, either converting AC to DC, or a higher voltage DC to a lower voltage DC due to series, parallel, and combination configurations of the rectifiers. The SB80W10T-H operates within the temperature range of -55°C to +125°C, so proper cooling measures should be implemented as needed. The standard peak forward voltage per element is typically 1.15V, with an acceptable variation of 1.00V to 1.25V. Finally, the mounting requirements for the SB80W10T-H must be considered, as the rectifier array is most typically solderedwithin printed circuit boards (PCBs).
