Diodes play a large role in most electronic components and many of these diodes are used for rectifying applications and it is for this reason that the SB840TA exists. The SB840TA is a special type of rectifier diode and has a number of advantages over traditional rectifier diodes.

The SB840TA is primarily used in the power supply industry, but can also be used in telecommunications, instrumentation and photovoltaic applications. It is an advanced, low-power rectifier diode usually used for power conversion and amplification. It is designed for high-efficiency applications and can be used in a variety of different rectifying circuits.

The SB840TA is a robust device with a large on-state current, low forward voltage drop, and low reverse current leakage. It is suitable for applications where efficiency, reliability and cost are all important. The device is also highly tolerant of electrostatic discharges (ESD) and can withstand a wide range of temperatures (from – 55°C to + 125°C).

The SB840TA is based on the traditional structure of a rectifier diode, but has been enhanced by the use of \'Schottky Barrier Technology\' which reduces the normal forward voltage drop found in most diode devices. This is achieved by utilising a specifically designed semiconductor junction, at the interface between two semiconducting materials. This junction has significantly lower forward voltage drop, enabling power conversion with higher efficiency.

The SB840TA operates in the forward bias mode when a positive voltage is applied to the anode and a negative voltage is applied to the cathode. This causes electrons to be forced across the PN junction from the cathode to the anode and this from this movement is what is known as electric current.

The SB840TA also operate in reverse bias mode when a negative voltage is applied to the anode and a positive voltage is applied to the cathode. This causes the electric current to be blocked and so prevents electric power being converted. It is important to note that when using the SB840TA in reverse bias mode, there is a small amount of current which leaks out of the device. This is known as \'reverse leakage current\' and typically forms a small part of the total forward current.

The SB840TA is designed to offer high levels of performance and efficiency in applications where reliability, cost and performance are important factors. It has a wide range of applications in the power supply industry and can also be used in other rectifying circuits. The use of Schottky Barrier Technology has enabled this device to offer significantly lower levels of forward voltage drop and improved levels of efficiency over traditional rectifier diodes.
