The SC4509WLTRT is a PMIC - LED driver designed for peripheral lighting applications. This device is suitable for applications such as keyboard backlight, display backlight, and white LED-based general-purpose lighting. Product Description

The SC4509WLTRT integrates a two-channel Buck driver, two external high-side switches and several dedicated features to support peripheral lighting applications. This device integrates power MOSFETs with a built-in gate driver, enabling efficient direct-drive lighting control. On-chip digital control reduces the complexity of the external power stage, which is supplemented by a two-channel PWM generator and several dedicated control options such as LED current sense, LED open LED, LED short LED, LED critical temperature, LED open LED with global dimmer and LED reverse current.

In addition to the built-in drivers and control options, the device also includes an integrated pass-through diode for reverse current protection to protect the LED from high voltage and low voltage. This device has an operating supply voltage range of 4.5V to 14V and a maximum switch current of 450mA.

Working Principle

The SC4509WLTRT has two control modes, direct drive control with separate high-side switches and charge pump control with separate low-side switches. In the direct drive mode, the device operates in two distinct phases: the power phase and the pulse phase. During the power phase, the peak current is adjusted by the reference current based on a user-defined current setting. During the pulse phase, the current is set to a user-defined peak level and constantly controlled by an overcurrent limit. The pulse time is determined by a user-defined time setting.

In the charge pump mode, the device operates in two distinct phases: the power phase and the boost phase. During the power phase, the peak current is adjusted by the reference current based on a user-defined current setting. During the boost phase, the current is maintained by a charge pump circuit, which reduces the current ripple. Both power phases and boost phase support light feedback control and dynamic dimmer control.

The device includes several features such as protection against over-voltage, low-voltage, over-temperature, LED open LED, LED short LED, LED reverse current, LED open LED with global dimmer, pulse operation and watchdog timer. The device also has a low shutdown current of 400nA.
