The SC453TSTRT is a three-terminal, pulse−width−modulation (PWM) switching controller intended for use in DC−to−DC voltage−regulator systems. It is available in a TO−252 low profile package and can drive both high−side and low−side power transistors in the same package. The SC453TSTRT is based on a control loop topology driven by individual I and V logic inputs. When the output coupling capacitor is connected, the vo level may be adjusted using an external resistive voltage divider.The SC453TSTRT provides the basic functions required for an adjustable−voltage DC−to−DC regulator when combined with one or more power transistors and commonly available inductors and capacitors. Additional external logic circuitry is required to provide complete control over the output voltage.The SC453TSTRT PWM switching controller contains two internal circuits. The first is a voltage control circuit which contains a transconductance amplifier. This amplifier senses the voltage at the output coupling capacitor and compares it with a reference level to determine the proper duty cycle for the output pulse width. The second circuit is a current control circuit which contains an error amplifier. The error amplifier senses the current through the catch diode and compares it with a reference level to determine the slew rate or current slope of the output voltage.The SC453TSTRT operates from 4.7V to 18V and has a wide range output voltage of 0.7V to 14V. It also includes an internal power limiting circuit which prevents excessive current flow when switching transistors of equal ratings. This helps prevent current runaway due to mismatch of the drive transistors. It also includes over-temperature protection circuitry.The SC453TSTRT internal PWM control loop has two separate input pins, I and V. The I input must be connected to a logic control signal or pulse−width−modulation (PWM) signal. The output voltage is linearly proportional to the I input voltage. The V input must be connected to an external resistive voltage divider which sets the output voltage.This product is ideal for various power supply applications such as:* DC-DC voltage converter systems* Battery charging* Power supplies* High efficiency motor controllersIn summary, the SC453TSTRT is an ideal three-terminal pulse-width-modulation switching controller for use in DC-to-DC voltage-regulator systems.
