Inclinometers are motion sensors commonly used to determine angular position, tilt or inclination. The SCA610-CAHH1G-1 from Sensonor is a miniature inclinometer which combines a MEMS accelerometer, a 16-bit microcontroller, temperature sensor, multi-position switch and communication interface into a single 8.3 x 8.3 x 2.5mm package. The device offers up to 16-bit resolution within an accuracy of up to 0.05 degrees per a dynamic range of ±90 degrees. The combination of a MEMS accelerometer and a temperature sensor enables the device to maintain the high accuracy even in extreme environmental conditions. Depending on the orientation of the MEMS sensor, there are 3 output modes available: X/Y angle, Z angle and tilt detection.
The SCA610-CAHH1G-1 is ideal for applications which require a high level of accuracy and excellent temperature stability. It is a perfect solution for applications such as measurement of attitude or pitch angle in aerospace, industrial, agricultural and medical systems. Additionally, it can be used in tracking and targeting systems as well as precision attitude control and stabilization systems. It can also be used for safety and stability monitoring in remote and hazardous areas.
The core of this design is the internal sensing component – a MEMS accelerometer, designed for tilt and inclination measurement. The device contains 3 axes of sensing which convey the tilt angle information to the microcontroller. The accelerometer incorporates Euler\'s theory to calculate the angle relative to the gravity vector. Thanks to the integration with the MEMS accelerometer, problems due to external accelerations or friction are not an issue.
The 16-bit MCU incorporated into the system contains an internal ROM memory, allowing the user to program the system with custom algorithms or add customized filters in order to reject noise or reduce information delivery rate to the system. Furthermore, the digital core allows a user to implement more sophisticated functionality such as motion tracking, speed control, acceleration control, or even a web server interface.
The communication interface of the SCA610-CAHH1G-1 is based on I2C or SPI communications protocol, which makes the device compatible with a large number of existing systems. Additionally, the device is available in a variety of packages, including SMD and SSO and is also Ni-Pd compliant for military and aerospace applications. This allows users to tailor the device to match their own specific requirements.
In many applications, power consumption is an important factor and therefore, the SCA610-CAHH1G-1 is designed to operate with an ultra-low power consumption, making it an ideal solution for portable systems.
