In addition, it provides wide input voltage range (4.75V to 14V) that makes it suitable for applications operating in different power supply range. It is also compact, with the dimension of 33.5mm W × 82.0mm L × 12.35mm H, and lightweight, only 28g.

Working Principle

SCW08C-15 DC–DC converter utilizes current through the inductor and feedback to generate the required output voltage. The induction of electric current into the inductor creates a magnetic field, then the electrical energy is stored within the magnetic field and released back in the form of an output voltage. The working principle of DC–DC converter mainly involves four stages:

• Input Power Stage: At this stage, the power supply is connected to the input terminal of the converter. It helps in regulating the input voltage in order to provide required output voltage.
• Switch Control Stage: The switching controller controls the switching transistors and switches them off and on periodically to create the required output voltage. In this stage, the control pins are used to monitor the output voltage.
• Conversion Stage: At this stage, the switching transistors turn on and off, and thus helping in the conversion process. This stage is also called the ‘buck or boost’ stage which helps in regulating the output voltage as required for the application.
• Output Stage: At this stage, the output voltage is sent to the load. This stage also consists of output capacitors that act as noise filters and help in smoothing the output voltage.

SCW08C-15 DC–DC converter is equipped with a variety of features such as wide output voltage range of 0-15V, programmable switching frequency up to 1MHz, integrated MOSFETs that reduces component count and PCB area, over-temperature protection, integrated soft start, current limit and other protections. It also comes with built-in VOUT/6 pin which allows the output voltage to be adjusted.
