SD05C.TCT Application Field and Working Principle
The SD05C.TCT is a TVS-diode which provides over-voltage protection from lightning surge and ESD/EFT pulse events that occur in input power systems. The SD05C.TCT has a very fast response time and can clamp transient voltages up to 350V. The device is capable of absorbing up to 10kA peak surge pulse current. It can operate in temperatures between -40℃ to 125℃.
The SD05C.TCT works on the principle of a thyristor switching device. When a voltage surge is detected, an internal thyristor is activated, redirecting the surge current to its D3/D4 terminals and away from the protected circuit. When the surge is concluded, the suppressed voltage is reduced to the normal operating value and the thyristor is reset to the off state. Therefore, the SD05C.TCT is able to effectively protect the circuit from transient voltage events while still allowing normal power operation.
