Diodes - Rectifiers - Single, SD101B-TP is a series of single-phase diodes with a shape of a tiny black square. They are usually used in low voltages power supplies, computers and other low-powering electronics. With their relatively low forward voltage drop, they are ideal for converting AC power to DC power. The working principle of SD101B-TP is based on the same principle as other diode rectifiers – passing electricity in a single direction. Conventional rectifiers are diodes with an anode electrode and a cathode electrode. When an alternating current is passed through the device, the anode electrode works as a gate, allowing current to flow when the voltage across the electrodes is positive, and blocking current built up in the device when the voltage is negative. The cathode reflects this behavior, blocking current when the voltage is positive, and allowing current to flow when the voltage is negative.

A SD101B-TP single rectifier contains two semi-conductor layers and a voltage-dependent resistor. This resistor provides resistance to current generated by the semi-conductor layers and regulates the current flow. The two semi-conductor layers form the based-emitter and collector, and the base-emitter acts as the rectifying diode, blocking current when the voltage between them is negative.
