The SD103BW-7-F is a single rectifying diode designed for general rectification, freewheeling and switching applications. It is built from a plastic package with a rating of 700V in a 4-pin DO-204AC (SMA) package. It gets its name due to its ability to withstand up to 1 Amp for sustained forward current and up to 3 Amp for peak forward current. Through an optimized regrowth structure and enhanced physical layout, the design provides good stability, high reliability and fast operation time. It is also RoHS compliant and features a specified temperature range from -55°C to +150°C.

The working principle of the SD103BW-7-F is based on that of a simple diode. A diode is composed of two regions of differently doped semiconductor material, which are joined together by a junction. The two different doped materials are called N-type and P-type. When current is allowed to flow through the diode, it is caused by the movement of electrons from the N-type material to the P-type material.
When the anode of the diode is made positive with respect to the cathode, current will flow. This is called forward bias, and can be achieved due to the movement of electrons from the N-type to the P-type material which introduces holes in the P-type material to allow current to flow. On the other hand, when the anode is made negative with respect to the cathode, this is called reverse bias and current will not flow. This happens due to the depletion layer which prevents current from flowing in the reverse direction.
The characteristics of the SD103BW-7-F diode can be determined by examining the diode\'s forward voltage drop and peak inverse voltage. The forward voltage drop is the voltage difference between the anode and the cathode when the diode is forward biased, and is usually in the range of 0.1 to 0.7V.
