Diodes, more generally known as rectifiers, are electrical components that convert alternating current (AC) power into direct current (DC) power. Standard single rectifier diodes are rated for 600 or 1000 volts of peak inverse voltage (PIV), depending on the make and model. The SDUR1020 diode is rated for 1000 volts of PIV.
