SF803G C0G

The SF803G C0G is a single rectifier diode made of high-temperature co-fired ceramic (HTCC), and is designed for use in high-frequency, high-temperature applications. It is designed to provide robust performance in the heaviest demand applications and offers a maximum operating temperature of 155°C and current ratings of up 10 amps. As with any other rectifier diode, the SF803G C0G has two major application fields: rectification and protection.

Rectification

Rectification is a process of converting an AC signal into a DC signal. The SF803G C0G can be used to rectify AC power to DC power and can be found in the majority of AC-DC power supplies. It is commonly used in switching power converters, inverters and power supplies, as well as in AC-DC and DC-DC conversion systems.

Protection

The SF803G C0G can also be used to provide protection of sensitive devices and systems. By connecting the diode in a circuit in a reverse biased direction, it creates a protective “barrier” or “clamp” for incoming signals that exceed a certain voltage. This prevents dangerous voltages from damaging your application’s sensitive components and keeps it within a safe range.

Working Principle

The SF803G C0G functions as a two-terminal electronic component that is made of what is known as a nonlinear diode. It is characterized by a junction, which exhibits asymmetric conduction and enables the device to act as a switching device. A typical junction consists of two layers of silicon-doped material, each with a different type of electrical charge. The junction is created when the two layers of material are connected creating an electric field that extends across the junction.

In a rectification application, an alternating current input signal is applied across theSF803G C0G’s anode and cathode. Once the signal\'s polarity is greater than the built in PN junction voltage, the diode conducts and current flows in the forward direction. When the forward current is greater than the continued anode current, power dissipation and power losses occur as a result of the junction\'s heating effect.

For a protection application, a reverse current is applied across the PN junction. When this signal is greater than the reverse rated voltage of the SF803G C0G, the diode conducts in the reverse direction abruptly diverting the signal safely away from the protected load. If a greater reverse current is required, a zener diode should be employed.
