SG1845Y-DESC is a DC to DC Switching Controller that falls under PMIC - Voltage Regulators. It is a highly integrated dual step-down synchronous switching controller that provides the power management solution for powering up highly efficient distributed power system with the capability of up to 6 phase. It is capable of programming variable frequency and phase modulation to further increase the efficiency of the system.
The SG1845Y-DESC is designed with a peak-peak current mode control loop and features a rich set of protection features including over-voltage protection (OVP), short-circuit protection (SCP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and over-current protection (OCP). The controller also provides adjustable switch current limit for both low side and high side switches and also includes a fast current ramp up/down feature for improved output voltage transient response.
The working principle for SG1845Y-DESC works by controlling the external power MOSFET switches in a synchronous rectifier configuration to convert a continuous input voltage into a constant regulated output with current matching. The synchronous rectifier is triggered by comparing its output voltage with the reference voltage taken from its feedback circuit that is provided by using an internal or external resistor divider. The SG1845Y-DESC uses current limit and voltage control circuitry to alter the duty cycle of its internal power MOSFET switches as it rectifies the input voltage waveform.
The SG1845Y-DESC provides a total of 8 voltage input options along with two additional reference pins to sense and regulate the output voltages. The upper side switch is optimized for MOSFET with an RDSON as low as 15mΩ to minimize the power dissipation.
