SG2844DM is an integrated AC/DC converter and is both an offline switcher for UCC3888 and a voltage regulated flyback controller for DIP package SMPS. It is specifically designed for applications requiring tight load regulation, low no-load consumption, small size and low cost. One of its main features includes low RDS (ON) TO-220 power mosfet integrated with the IC that helps to reduce the external component count and optimize the system efficiency. It also includes two-stage operation, allowing for transition from a low-power standby mode and into a high-power operational mode.
This AC/DC converter operates with 4-point feed-forward control and is ideal for audio power amplifiers, small appliances, and home entertainment products. It offers a wide range of protection features such as over-temperature protection, over-voltage protection, current limit protection and more.
The core of SG2844DM is the internal PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit, which greatly improves the power supply system’s performance. This circuit adopts the PENTA Wave topology, which is more efficient and reliable than the traditional boost PFC approach. Additionally, SG2844DM employs an ultra-thin external FET to replace the traditional boost diode, thus providing better efficiency, faster transient response and thermal stability.
The secondary side of SG2844DM is controlled by dual-loop regulation. The primary loop controls the output voltage, while the secondary loop manages the output current. During the working cycle, the voltage loop reduces the output voltage error by modulating the PWM signal. At the same time, the current loop reduces the error by adjusting the output current. The two-loop control design helps to provide a fast, precise and stable voltage output against load changes.
SG2844DM also provides an auxiliary power supply (APS), which improves the system’s dynamic response with a low-voltage feedback. The APS is generated by a bootstrap network and then regulated with a bandgap reference. The APS enables the UCC3888 controller to operate at lower voltages than the main supply and also prevents it from being affected by the main supply voltage fluctuations.
SG2844DM is designed with high efficiency in mind. To achieve this, the IC utilizes a proprietary semiconductor technology called low-Rds(on) Smart Mosfet, which provides a very low-resistance conduction path for carrying large currents. Furthermore, the IC supports multiple system architectures such as pre-biased, inrush current protection, and soft-start. All these features increase the system’s efficiency, reduce audible noises, and increase efficiency at light load.
