SG3842DM Application Field and Working Principle

SG3842DM is an AC/DC converter which belongs to the Offline Switcher family of PMICs (Power Management ICs). AC/DC converters are used in many applications such as powering electronics in vehicles, industrial automation, robotic systems, and home appliances. After the peak current has been reached, the SG3842DM will instruct the MCU to make the MOSFET switch go off. This will cause the stored energy in the output inductor to discharge, resulting in the steady delivery of power output.

The SG3842DM comes with its own set of features such as on-/off control, thermal protection, short-circuit protection, LED open-load protection, over-voltage protection, and under-voltage protection. This gives the user complete control over the operating temperature, power output and current regulation of the system. In case of a short circuit, the SG3842DM will detect the short circuit condition and disconnect the power output to prevent damage to the system.
