The SI5335D-B03340-GMR is a Clock Generator and Jitter Attenuator based on Silicon Laboratories’ Proven Multi-Synth™ Technology. This device can handle the most demanding and precise timing applications, such as networking, computing, multimedia, and communications products. The SI5335D-B03340-GMR is capable of synthesizing frequencies in the range of 2kHz to 400MHz with very fine resolution, as well as generating and attenuating jitter up to 100kHz, depending on the frequency and configuration. Additionally, the device contains many features such as programmable output amplitude, user selectable output powerup/powerdown sequencing, and several user selectable output formats, which provide a very versatile and powerful solution for timing applications.

Working Principle

The SI5335D-B03340-GMR works by using Silicon Laboratories’ patented Multi-Synth™ technology. This technology utilizes a high-speed phase-locked loop (PLL) core, that can easily be tuned to the desired frequency. This enables very precise frequency control, while providing low jitter, low noise, and fast settling times. Multi-Synth™ technology also allows for wide frequency tuning range, frequency stabilization, wide dynamic range, and fast output switching.

The SI5335D-B03340-GMR contains a 16-bit wide phase/frequency detector (PFD) and voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) core. This allows the user to program the output frequency with very high resolution. The device also contains a differential output driver, which is able to drive both single-ended and differential outputs. This allows for a variety of output types, such as CMOS, LVPECL, LVDS, CML, and SSTL.

The SI5335D-B03340-GMR also contains a jitter attenuator, which is used to reduce the amount of jitter in the signal.
