Clock/Timing - Application Specific

SI5338P-B04725-GMR provides access to integrated, double-buffered, zero-delay-buffer (ZDB®) and zero-delay-forward-clock (ZDFC®) output multiplexers that configure the frequency, phase and output type of the individual outputs. This allows the user to have a highly flexible, low-latency and low-jitter combination of outputs, making it ideal for timing applications such as transceivers, test and measurement equipment, high-speed memories and high-speed converters.

Working Principle

The SI5338P-B04725-GMR features eight configurable fractional-N/integer-N-prescalers to each output, allowing for different frequencies and phases on each output. This versatility is useful for clock tree applications with different frequency and phase requirements for different devices of a design. This product also features rapid-lock frequency synthesizers that can quickly change output frequencies in less than 1ms, allowing for fast changes when necessary.

The zero-delay-buffer and zero-delay-forward-clock features offer zero-delay clock outputs in both CMOS and LVCMOS format, eliminating the need for delay lines or additional dividers in certain applications. The ZDB feature combines delay elements and output buffers in one device, providing zero-delay clock outputs to multiple bits of logic in one package, resulting in reduced board space and simplified signal routing.

The SI5338P-B04725-GMR has integrated jitter filters, spread spectrum outputs and an integrated low-noise power supply. The spread-spectrum outputs reduce the total instantaneous spectral power, thus eliminating the need for external filtering. The integrated jitter filter eliminates the need for external frequency crosses and greatly reduces the output jitter. The integrated low-noise power supply filters out any high-frequency noise thereby eliminating the need for external power-supply filters.

Applications

The SI5338P-B04725-GMR is designed for use in a variety of applications, from digital receivers to ultra-low-jitter clock distribution. The device can also be used to provide reference clocks for communication, test and measurement equipment, memories, and high-speed datapaths.
