The SI5342B-D-GMR is an innovative Freescale integrated circuit (IC) from a line of silicone-based semiconductor clock generators that provide enhanced clock performance to complex systems. The SI5342B-D-GMR is optimized for complex timing and synchronization applications, providing a low jitter, nine-output clock generator operating at frequencies ranging from 10MHz to 302.25MHz.

System designers developing integrated circuit (IC) products with multiple clock frequencies require efficient solutions to generate multiple clock frequencies consistently, accurately, and stably. High quality clean clock signals are essential components in most digital systems, yet can be difficult to achieve with the limited resources available in most embedded electronic designs. The SI5342B-D-GMR utilizes advanced phased-lock loop (PLL) technology and frequency synthesizer circuitry to provide very accurate, low jitter clock frequencies, allowing IC design engineers to achieve extremely precise clock performance and frequency control.

The SI5342B-D-GMR consists of four standard clock generator outputs, four I2C-controlled precise differential outputs, and one differential output clock from a single package. The precise differential outputs offer precise programmable delay adjustment that allows the system designer to program the precise timing relations between clock signals. The high-speed on-chip clock synthesizer provides reliable and repeatable clock solutions for a wide range of high-speed digital applications.

The on-chip synthesizer generates the clock signal through a combination of a phase frequency detector (PFD), a charge pump, and a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The synthesizer locks to an external master clock and generates an output clock signal with adjustable frequency and phase, ensuring precise frequency and phase relationships between multiple clock outputs. This synthesizer can be adjusted to any frequency between 10MHz and 302.25MHz. The SI5342B-D-GMR features frequency synthesis technology that dramatically reduces jitter in the output clock signals, which is of particular importance in data transmission applications.
