The SI5351C-B05822-GMR is a versatile frequency synthesizer manufactured by Silicon Laboratories. It is used widely in industrial and consumer applications and is an ideal solution for replacing costly internal clock oscillators in a product. The SI5351C-B05822-GMR is a low-cost, low power Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs and Frequency Synthesizers (CGFP).The SI5351C-B05822-GMR can generate three outputs at up to 225MHz, and is programmable with a VCO frequency range from 1.2MHz to 160MHz and can be programmed for any output frequency from 0.25-225MHz. It can be used for clock application such as microcontrollers, DSPs and FPGAs, or where high performance is required, such as high-speed data transmission systems and multi-channel applications. The device also offers spread-spectrum and jitter attenuating features to reduce EMI/RFI emissions, as well as to reduce jitter accumulation in applications.Working PrincipleThe SI5351C-B05822-GMR is an all-digital , low cost, low power Frequency Synthesizers (FS) device. This device provides three separate outputs, each utilizing a PLL to generate its output frequency. Each output’s PLL consists of a Phase Detector (PD) and a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO). There are two types of loops used in the device: the Integer-N Loop and the Fractional-N Loop. The Integer-N Loop is used for generating high-frequency outputs, while the Fractional-N Loop is used for generating low-frequency outputs.Each channel of the device has four M-registers to store its output frequency. These registers are MUXed and loaded into the PD, where they are compared and the error signal is used to correct the output frequency. The PD output is then applied to the VCO, which then adjusts its frequency accordingly.The Integer-N Loop stores an integer value, N, in its M-Register to define the output frequency. For example, if N is set to 10, the VCO\'s frequency will be N times the reference clock frequency. The N integer factor allows for a wider range of output frequencies.The Fractional-N Loop stores a fractional value, F, in its M-Register to define the output frequency. This loop produces higher resolution frequency tuning. The F value defines how many parts of the reference clock frequency will be used by the VCO, allowing for fine-tuning of the output frequency.The SI5351C-B05822-GMR also features advanced features such as spread-spectrum and jitter attenuating. It can be used to reduce EMI/RFI emissions and to reduce jitter accumulation in applications.
