Inrush Current Limiters (ICL) is a component designed to protect electrical and electronic equipment from excessive inrush currents. The SL15 60002 is a commonly-used ICL, which is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC)-based device designed to limit inrush current to a desirable level. This device consists of a resistive element, a metal oxide varistor (MOV) and a diode. The operating principle of the SL15 60002 ICL device is based on the combination of resistive property of the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) and the nonlinear characteristics of the diode. At the moment of power up, a high inrush current will flow through the device resulting in a voltage drop across the NTC. This voltage drop across the NTC will cause the NTC to cool down and the resistance of the NTC will decrease, which will reduce the current flow. The diode then provides an alternative channel for the current to flow, thus reducing the magnitude of the inrush current. The SL15 60002 ICL mainly finds its application in the protection of circuit boards, power supplies, motors, capacitors, relays and other electrical components from over current damage. It can also be used in the protection of telecom equipment, computer systems, switches, wireless units, infrared equipment, and many other applications. The device can effectively limit inrush current to a predetermined level, allowing the system to operate efficiently and safely. The SL15 60002 ICL device has the advantage of being able to limit the current flow in a fast and reliable way. The operating temperature range is from -25 °C to +125 °C, and the rated current range is 0.05A to 32A. The power rating for the device is 50W and it is designed with surface mount technology process. The small package size of the device allows for easy installation that requires minimal space on the board.
