Working Principle:

In normal operation, the terminal which is connected to ground is kept at a negative voltage, which prevents current flow. When a transient occurs, the voltage across the terminals rises quickly; this causes the gate of the MOSFET to be pulled to the P-channel, allowing current to flow between the terminals. When the transient ends, the voltage across the terminals returns to normal, and the gate of the MOSFET is again pulled away from the P-channel to cut off the current flow.
