The SLV74HC4538ADR2G, is a Logic - Multivibrator. It is a dual monostable mutivibrator that triggers from a low to high transition on a active low input or high to low transition on an active high input. This dual monostable multivibrator is designed specifically to operate with either 5-V (TTL) or 3.3V (CMOS) logic.
Application Field
A SLV74HC4538ADR2G is frequently used to generate a fixed delay time. Such as generating a pulse width modulation signal to control servo motors, providing pulse signals for robotics and other microcontroller and microprocessor applications, and generating synchronized clock pulses for digital timing systems. Its applications also include switching power supplies, time-delay relays, bistable multivibrators and frequency dividers.
Working Principle
The monostable multivibrators are comprised of two interconnected inverters, which start in a stable state with one logic level high, and the other logic level low. When a trigger input is applied, one of the logic levels flips to the opposite state, and this change is propagated through the second inverter, thus changing the output.
The flip-flop behaviour of the monostable is caused by the two resistors connected to the two inverters. Immediately after the trigger is applied, the output of one of the inverters changes to the opposite level, while current is flowing through the resistor between the two inverters, so the output of the second inverter also changes.
When the trigger is removed, the original output will return to its original state. A monostable multivibrator gives the output an intermediate active state while the trigger is applied, which could be used to create a pulse of known width when the input returns to its original state.
A SLV74HC4538ADR2G includes two independent monostable multivibrator circuits sharing a common triggering input. The two mutually exclusive outputs(Q and Q\') can each provide a low to high or high to low output pulse when triggered by either the low to high or high to low transition, respectively, on the input.
Both monostable circuits feature a wide range of measuring times due to the 8-bit programmable input port. The output can be programmed to be logic high or low. A complementary output (Q\' and Q opposite logic level) is also provided.
